David M. Jacobi, Ph.D.

is a licensed Psychologist and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Chicago Medical School. He specializes in the assessment and treatment of anxiety disorders including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, agoraphobia, social anxiety disorder, and specific phobias. He also works with individuals suffering from depression and so-called OCD spectrum disorders such as hair pulling, skin picking, and nail biting.

Dr. Jacobi utilizes evidence-based treatments, including cognitive behavioral (CBT), which focuses on correcting unrealistic and distorted thinking patterns and behaviors that maintain the problem. Most of the CBT treatments for anxiety include some form of exposure to the feared situation, object, or sensation. CBT is most effective when patients complete "homework" assignments between sessions. These assignments can include tracking ones thinking, exposure work, or behavioral experiments designed to evaluate the veracity of a clients belief. Therapy sessions are collaborative in nature with both therapist and client working toward problem solution.

Dr. Jacobi works primarily with adults but does treat children and adolescents who are dealing with anxiety and related disorders. Caregivers of younger children are trained to provide cognitive-behavior therapy so they can assist their child with exposure-based homework assignments and manage flare ups effectively.

Dr. Jacobi is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA) and and has presented his work at national and regional conferences.
